When I was writing the initial business plan for ProvenCut, it occurred to me that not only could ProvenCut be an incredibly useful tool for folks looking to learn CNC machining, but also as a way to evaluate CNC machines (a.k.a. “machine tools”). Students in the NYC CNC Training Classes often ask about which CNC machine they should buy. While the class gives them a chance to see a range of CNC machines – from a Tormach 770 up to large HAAS machines – ProvenCut gives everyone the ability to see these machines in action.
As of September 23, 2019 (the day I’m writing this news entry), ProvenCut has 85 HAAS TM3-P Speeds & Feeds recipes and 42 HAAS VF2-SS recipes. We’re adding recipes regularly, and remember to use the Recipe Request page if there’s a material or operation you’d like to see on ProvenCut.
So how does a TM3-P compare to a VF2-SS? As is so often the answer: it depends! Without a question, the VF2-SS is an amazing machine, and a step up from the TM3-P. The VF2-SS includes options for things like thru-spindle coolant and higher RPM spindles that aren’t available on the TM3-P, as well as higher-capacity side-mount ATC (automatic tool changer). That being said, we have found the TM3-P to be an excellent machine, especially for the price. But enough about what we think – look through the ProvenCut recipes to see if YOU think the machine is capable of machining your parts.
